Jazz Composers Collective - 20th Anniversary
From November 6-11, 2012
The Jazz Composers Collective will reconvene at The Jazz Standard in New York City to perform highlights of the many original compositions that were created by it's five composers-in-residence (Ben Allison, Michael Blake, Frank Kimbrough, Ted Nash and myself) between 1992 and 2005. New compositions will also be premiered. Each composer will have a night to present his own original music.
On Thursday November 8th, I will present two sets of new music. The first set will be new music performed by my sextet. The second set will be will be an "eleven-tet" co-led by me and drummer Tim Horner, and will feature Marty Ehrlich. Since 2009, this group has primarily played the music of Andrew Hill, but for this special occasion, we will be premiering our own original compositions and arrangements. See the line-up below for these two groups.
Other groups that I will also be performing with during the JCC Festival:
Ted Nash Quartet - Friday Nov. 9th
Ben Allison's Medicine Wheel-Saturday Nov. 10th
Herbie Nichols Project - Friday Nov. 9th and Sunday Nov. 11th
